I like to utilize the entire space of my office, to really create an environment of belonging, with the co-collaboration of students. I work very closely with a student who is also an exceptional artist that utilizes sales of their work to fund a school in their hometown. This student was nice enough to donate a custom-made piece to my office that reads, "You Belong Here!", so that every student who walks in feels that they are at home.
When working with diverse student populations, I strive to provide equity. My campus had one cultural group of fewer than 3% on our campus significantly struggling academically and socially. Through additional meetings, I learned and built on cultural strengths to improve the learning capacity of these diverse learners. Having developed our relationship, I used my available resources to provide the best learning environments and saw marked improvement in their performance by the end of the year.
