One technique I've used to encourage seniors to stay hydrated and maintain proper nutrition is to make it simple and part of their daily routine. I recommend keeping water bottles in visible, easy-to-reach places and encouraging them to sip throughout the day, rather than waiting until they feel thirsty. For those resistant to plain water, I suggest adding slices of fruit, cucumber, or herbs for flavor. On the nutrition side, I focus on small, nutrient-dense meals and snacks. Smoothies with protein, healthy fats, and greens or soups with bone broth and vegetables are easy to digest and appealing. I also recommend setting reminders or alarms for meal and hydration times, which helps build consistency. By making hydration and nutrition convenient and enjoyable, seniors are more likely to stick with healthy habits, leading to improved energy, mood, and overall well-being.
IV hydration! We have several elderly clients who come into our med spas for treatments (and we also go out to them for house calls). Not only do they receive a whole liter of fluids, we can customize each bag with a myriad of vitamins to help maintain proper nutrition. Our most popular IV cocktail is the Wellness Meyer's bag-- which is jam-packed with B12, B-complex, mag chloride, vitamin C and zinc.
