Every divorce agreement should include a provision clarifying which parent will claim each child as a dependent. Before the Agreement is finalized, the non-custodial parent should also have the "custodial" parent execute IRS Form 8332 for each and every year the non-custodial parent has the right to claim the child as a dependent per their agreement. This saves a potentially huge headache down the road.
