Being the CEO and one of the founders of the Legacy Online School, I have had many students who have changed upon moving from public schools and some who have done better at public schools too; however, there is one that stands out in my mind: a young lost student in public school. They had lost their self-confidence, as they didn't fit into the "mold". Then something clicked when they switched to online learning, improving not only their grades but also their attitude towards school . That is the beauty of the online program-it lets kids learn at their pace while providing personalized support to catch up on the concepts that they need. The other big change to note is the attitude-that small battle after/against school, to jump in, to participate, to help other kids. This was not about academics, giving back belief in themselves. It reminded me that education-public or private-can be the key to unlocking the most potential for pedagogic enhancement if such education addresses the needs of a student. The change, once I saw that, re-bolstered my desire for education, and I truly believe every student can succeed if suitable avenues for their learning are accessed.
Public education extends beyond academics, serving as a catalyst for transformative experiences in students and their communities. For instance, Alex, a student in a public school with a strong STEM program, found a passion for digital marketing through a partnership with local businesses. This initiative not only enhanced his skills but also demonstrated how education can empower students to contribute meaningfully to their communities and industries.
Witnessing the power of public education can be transformative, as shown by a community initiative that integrated technology into schools, boosting both student skills and local economic growth. In an underserved neighborhood, educators partnered with businesses to develop a tech-focused curriculum, including coding and digital marketing. Students engaged in hands-on projects, like website development, providing them with invaluable resources and opportunities previously unavailable.
