When my brothers and I got really bored of the number plate game during family road trips, my mum made an addition to the game, to spice things up and keep things interesting. My mum decided that instead of just counting the states in the country, that we would all take turns spelling words with the first letters that began the state's name. Usually, we would start small, with three letter words. For instance, if we sighted the number plate of a state that begins with B, we would all take turns spelling three letter words that begin with the letter B, beginning from the youngest member of the family, and if the second plate number that is spotted begins with the letter B again, or any other letter for that matter, we spell four letter words, then five, six, seven, eight letter words and we keep going onwards in that direction. What makes this game really fun, is the fact that it is one that everyone is sure to find interesting, engaging and fun, all at the same time, and the fact that it creates bonding moments for families. Also, there are no winners! Personally, I find that it really gets fun when we have to spell longer words, or when one person can't think of something to spell, and ends up spelling words that either don't exist, or adding extra letters to familiar words. Altogether, I think it's a fun game for the family.
