In addition to unlimited PTO, we also give our employees the day off for federal holidays. This allows them to spend time with their loved ones and honor their cultural traditions and national holidays without worrying about missing work or coming in late after a long weekend. We believe that it's important to support our employees' well-being both at home and at work. We want to make sure that they're able to take time off when they need it, while still being able to focus on their work responsibilities.
At Halloran, we have a pretty long list of corporate holidays (21 in 2022) including federal holidays, an annual shutdown in the last week of the year, and sometimes even the Friday before a Monday holiday. As a company founded with work-life integration as a key part of our foundation, especially work-life integration for working parents (as our CEO was) and those with other caregiving needs, we've found this to be a way to help offset a day when schools are closed, caregiving services may be charging additional fees due to holiday pay/overtime, and across the board, regardless of situation, give folks time to refresh, recharge, and renew, along with others who may also have their time off. We've actually expanded our company holidays as a result of employee feedback in the past, which has been well-received by our folks and continues to allow us to walk our talk!
In our business, we do not have to be open on federal holidays like retail or hospitality companies. So, our company has the mandate of honoring all federal holidays by allowing our employees to rest. Moreover, having a team comprised of different faiths, and several residing abroad, we have also observed several cultural holidays that allow our staff to celebrate with their families without utilizing their vacation days. I believe this boosts morale within our company culture. as all are able to learn about their team member's culture and benefit from it as well. If a team member chooses to work from home on a day that we are closed that choice is left up to them but there are no scheduled team meetings on federal holidays.
We always give employees federal holidays off because they ensure we’re taking regular breaks. Federal holidays are relatively well-spaced on the calendar, giving our team at least one guaranteed day off every 1-3 months. They happen often enough to provide significant motivation - knowing our next 4-day week is coming soon helps get us through the daily challenges. Federal holidays ensure that employees who book vacation days in one or two chunks still have some built-in breaks throughout the year. They help keep us on track and reduce burnout rates significantly.
Yes, we provide employees with most federal holidays as paid days off. We chose to observe the federal holidays that closely align with our company values. Providing paid holidays is a best practice in many industries, including ours. For us, providing federal holidays as paid time off is a company benefit that allows employees to relax, spend time with loved ones and disconnect from work. Our company recognizes the importance of taking time off from work and it has a direct correlation to wellness, mental health and productivity. We also provide employees with their birthday as a holiday. I'd encourage more organizations to offer paid federal holidays.
Ensuring our employees have federal holidays align with our core company value or be curious and openminded. Having those days off allows our team to go out into the world, discuss what they do with others and potentially network over the holidays. Employees come back more energetic and open to new ideas and work, or better yet, share new ideas they've learned over the holiday to improve our business.
We give our employees the day off for federal holidays to help them better manage their work-life balance. This allows them more time to spend with family and friends, which can be important for maintaining good mental health. Additionally, federal holidays are often associated with special events or activities that employees may want to participate in. This could include things like parades, festivals, or special ceremonies. We want our employees to be happy, healthy, and enjoy their time off.
Give your employees the day off on federal holidays if your business isn't a 24-hour industry. For example, nursing, truck driving, and hospitality professionals often work on weekends, after-hours, and federal holidays. The question isn't whether employees deserve federal holidays off – of course, they do; the real question is, what business are you managing?
We do give 10 paid federal holidays to our employees; they’re part of the 32 total yearly holidays we allow to our employees. Most private organizations only give 22-25 yearly holidays to employees. When almost half of the country is taking the day off on those days, it feels wrong for our employees to come to the office. Even though the private sector is not legally bound, still, employees actually expect employers to allow these holidays — so they can spend quality time with their loved ones on these special days.
Our employees are fully remote and are based in several different countries worldwide. We have an exciting blend of faiths and beliefs among our staff and as a result, we accept that US federal holidays mean little to many of them. To accommodate this we allocate a specified number of holidays to each staff member to be taken on whatever date suits them. No one is obliged to take any day off that they don't want to, allowing them to take days relevant to them. All we ask is that HR is informed in advance of the days that will be taken off and this has to be approved by the manager. Using this method has allowed us to respect each other's faiths and traditions and has led to a more tolerant culture within the workplace.
In the United States, there are ten federal holidays: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents' Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. Most businesses must give their employees the day off on these holidays. However, some business leaders allow their employees to work on federal holidays. There are a few reasons why this might be the case. First of all, federal holidays often fall on Mondays or Fridays, which can make it difficult for businesses to maintain operations. Secondly, many US businesses have employees who come from different cultural backgrounds. As a result, not everyone celebrates the same holidays. Allowing employees to work on federal holidays helps to create a more inclusive workplace. Finally, giving employees the day off can be expensive for businesses. By allowing employees to work on federal holidays, businesses can save money on labour costs.
Our company policy is that as a general rule, we take most of the federal holidays, but employees are permitted to work them if they wish to. No extra payments are made to those who choose to work a federal holiday but they will earn a day in lieu to be added to their balance. We encourage employees to take the time off because as a family-orientated business we believe that they should be marking these special days with their families. We accept however that not every employee would wish to do so and this is why we have made the provision of the option to work if they choose to do so.
Our company enjoys an excellent employer reputation for offering day-offs during federal holidays. We can demonstrate how we care about our employees' feedback and respond to their needs through these holidays. Employees trust our company more, improve their overall satisfaction, and perform significantly better. It presents a healthier workplace culture and better working conditions, which also helps us attract and retain customers who advocate for our employee welfare. It's an excellent offering for both our employees and clients.
We have mentioned in our leave policy that the employees can freely decide whether they want to take the holiday leave or come to the workplace. If they decide to take the leave, they do not lose any paid leaves in their name. If any employee decides to work, they are welcome to do that. But, we do not give them any extra bonus or leave for that. So, naturally, most employees will decide to take federal holiday leave. The difference is that you'll see the HRs actively encouraging employees to go on vacations, and take caretaker leaves. This is because these leaves are for the benefit of the employees which we expect them to enjoy.
Yes, we do. We give our employees the day off for federal holidays. We also send a holiday email to the team to let them know we are wishing them a happy holiday and to spend it with their loved ones. We as business owners enjoy those holiday days with our families and we believe those days are important for our employees to spend with family and friends.
We’re a small passionate team of just 20 members. Each of the team members works really hard to build the dream we envisioned. We sat together in early 2022, and decided that all our team members will enjoy 10 paid federal holidays. We believe that to achieve bigger goals, to win millions of hearts with our products and services — we first need to win the hearts of twenty souls working tirelessly every day. We’re proudly doing it, even though we’re small, and don’t make millions in net profits.
Despite not being legally bound to do so, our company does provide ten federal paid holidays. We’ve two main reasons for this: a) we always wanted to build an employee-centric company, where everyone will feel happy to work, and will feel happy to associate themselves with us. b) Workplace norms are changing rapidly. Employees now want well-being before anything else. This is why, to attract top-tier talent, we offer such flexible policies at our company.
We believe in the value of balance and work hard to create a culture that allows for work-life balance for employees. What this means for you: As our employee, you can expect: The day off – We recognize that federal holidays are important to our team and our company, and we want to make sure everyone has the day off. Flexible work hours – We offer employees the ability to work remotely, schedule meetings outside of core business hours, and take advantage of the latest technology to allow for more flexibility in their daily schedules. Time off – We believe in taking time off because it is necessary to stay healthy and productive as an individual and as a company. We offer all employees 16 days of paid time off annually (in addition to any legally mandated paid time off), so they have time to rest, relax, recover and rejuvenate.
Our team takes days off during federal holidays because having work and life balance is a top priority in our organization. I think that it is only right that we take time off on designated holidays because there is no point in slaving ourselves while the rest of the country is also taking a break. This is also significant in keeping morale high because employees can recharge, which is a key factor in curbing burnout and turnover rates in the company.
We give employees the day off for federal holidays because we think it’s important for team morale. While not everyone chooses to celebrate each holiday, having designated time off where everyone from the C-Suite to interns stops working helps reduce stress and promotes work-life balance. There’s no pressure to perform for leaders and nothing to “miss out” on by taking the day off, as most customers are home spending time with their families, too. It makes more sense to take advantage of a slow business day, so that's exactly what we do!
