Volunteering at a local food pantry early in my career gave me a profound appreciation for the challenges many people face daily. I initially thought I understood food insecurity, but spending time helping families select groceries and listening to their stories revealed how complex and pervasive the issue truly is. One moment that stuck with me was assisting a single mother who juggled multiple jobs yet still struggled to provide basic meals for her kids. That interaction made me realize the resilience required just to get through each day. This experience fostered empathy by putting a human face on abstract problems and reminded me to approach my work and life with greater compassion. It also inspired me to advocate for more inclusive company policies that support employees facing hardships, knowing firsthand how unseen struggles can impact performance and well-being.
