The past two and a half years have presented countless challenges that have dramatically changed the way many businesses operate, but the fundamentals for you as a person and how you can grow and succeed in your career have not. For example, trusting your instincts is still important. Having self-awareness and a strong moral compass will serve you well throughout your life and your career. Also, you’ll find that the greatest achievements are born from great risks. Pushing yourself outside of your comfort zone is one of the best things you can do for your personal or career development. Once you open yourself up to “I’ll try anything” the world becomes your oyster. It’s OK, and inevitable, to have feelings of uncertainty when selecting a career path. Simply reflect at how you ended up at WP Carey in the first place. When making your decision, there was no blueprint, you just likely confided in a close friend or relative, encountered an encouraging teacher, or maybe you came across a good book or movie that lit a spark. From there, however, you took those lemons and made the most of it. The same is true when choosing a career. You can, and should, put yourself in the best situation possible, but the variables outside of your control are often more impactful. An inspiring boss, a co-worker who later becomes a dear friend, or an industry spike/dip in your chosen field, are all impossible to predict. While positioning yourself properly is vital, it’s arguably more important to acknowledge that much will be out of your control and your ability to adapt and take advantage of the cards that you\'re dealt is the true challenge... and fun part!
The one piece of advice that I would give a current W.P. Cary student for how to best prepare for the future world of work is to be adaptable. There is a lot of uncertainty and complexities in the world today and being able to consider alternative perspectives will enable confidence and empower strategic problem solving that is required. The world is changing rapidly - COVID sent us all remote, global logistics challenges are unwinding or at least driving a re-think of "off shoring", technology is rapidly advancing and can now replace humans at *some* tasks - all this change and a lot is still thriving. The job you get may not be the job you are asked to do; at a very minimum the way you do the job will evolve - willingness to move forward, take risks, be comfortable with some unknowns are some ingredients of a high value employee/employer relationship. Take the time in college to learn as much as possible about being an expert in a marketable skill. Today, there are many opportunities to make money online, whether from a side business or a full-time job. If you are artistic and creative, learn something from the Adobe Suite. If you are analytical, learn some coding or data science. What you choose to pursue doesn't have to be related to your degree, find a marketable skill that you can monetize, and you will be able to create multiple income streams.
Don’t conform for the sake of conformity. There isn’t anyone who can do any job in the same way that you can. We are all unique. Remember to bring who you are to everything you do and you’ll shine in any industry!
Ans: Practice consistency, interest, and certainty There are three principal parts of accomplishment that I might want to impart to the students. These are consistency, curiosity, and certainty. It is essential to remain predictable in the working environment; however, staying steady with yourself is also vital. Get some time to appear and put resources into yourself. Remain inquisitive and make it a point to get clarification on pressing issues. We are continuously proceeding to develop, embrace learning new ideas and stay open to change. Remain sure about yourself and remember to recognize difficult work from yourself and other people around you. Specific energy will glimmer an uplifting outlook and consistently lead to progress, and positive mentalities will draw in sure results.
Find your team. The best way to prepare for the future world of work is to put together a team of like-minded students and leave school with the power to take on the world. When you pull together a small team of classmates who share your vision, tenacity, training and work ethic, you’re creating a solid structure that you can build upon and that will support you long-term. Build a strong team in school and when you graduate, you’ll enter the working world with strength in numbers, a support group, and everything you need to start your own successful business together.
Remain authentically yourself. While you will change and grow, who you are now dictates your best opportunities. The people you seek and the companies seeking to employ you understand the value of unique contributions that match your style. Individual and cultural frameworks dictate successful futures far more than skills, which can be learned. Develop your soft skills. After graduating, you and your entire class will be entering the working world with the same learned skills, but if you develop strong soft skills, you’re going to offer something unique. Soft skills like integrity, leadership, problem-solving, and communication are going to make you a valuable asset to a company looking for longevity in a candidate. Soft skills are also desirable when finding a team member who will be easy to work with, trustworthy, and enjoyable in the hours spent working together. Soft skills are often undervalued and overlooked, but when you’re entering the working world as a recent graduate, your soft skills are going to be what set you apart and make you the best candidate for the job long-term.
Staying current with technology trends enables you to evolve as digital transformations change work processes. No matter what industry you're in, technology plays a significant role in most jobs these days. And whether you prioritize learning, devote time each day to tech news, or attend tech events, being up-to-date with technology trends keeps your skills current so you can be more efficient in your job. It also helps you communicate effectively with co-workers and customers, which is vital in any workspace, be it online or off.
If you are a W.P Carey Student, the best way to prepare is not to firstly procrastinate, but always look for developing study methods, don't only stick to a material, but gain knowledge from all sides. Also, prefer the newspaper. Read the newspapers, review them, analyze them. As the students return to campus, building the timetable and following it without procrastination is excellent advice. Many students lose interest and start procrastinating at a point moment, which is a great blunder. Discover exciting ways to stop procrastination and overcome it. Being W.P Carey students, many follow all the steps that are mentioned and precise, but this is the leading and beneficial piece of advice that is overlooked and leads to time waste.
Build your community. Now, while you’re still in school, is the time to build your team and community that you can take with you into the world of work. It is so important today to have a powerful community around you of like-minded people who you trust, who trust you, and who you can grow with. Your team is going to be there to brainstorm with you, collaborate with you, create companies together, and refer jobs. You may think you can do it on your own, and that is definitely possible, but you’re always going to be stronger with a community around you to lift you up. Create your community now, while you’re still in school, and take them with you into the real world so you’ll have a support system who will challenge you, inspire you, and support you.
The value of action is far more meaningful than that of words. Use this as a principle in the way you conduct yourself at the workplace. Instead of bragging about what you can bring to the table, and never actually delivering, show management what you are capable of. Impress them with the quality of your work, and the depths of your work ethic. Let your results and achievements do your talking for you.
