I'm a physician and an Ayurveda practitioner. Let me share my perspective that may be useful to you. "Psoriatic" arthritis has many other causative factors (auto-immune, inflammatory etc). "Weight" will result in "osteo arthritis" that is directly related to 'degeneration'- can happen with age, or weight extra weight or overuse of joints without adequate joint support protocol to prevent degenerative disease from happening. Now, let me give you the Ayurvedic perspective. In Ayurveda, there are 3 body types, Vata (air), Pitta (fire), and Kapha (earth & water). Out of these 2, the Kapha tends to carry 'extra weight' as per their body type from birth. However, the fact that they have more earth & water elements, gives them also the lubrication to support their joints well. The pitta (fire) type suffers more from inflammatory type arthritis (ie. psoriatic, rheumatoid etc). Fire uncontrolled leads to inflammation in the body. It is the Vata (air) type that is very prone to degenerative osteoarthritis. Air "dries" things. Excess air in joints can not only occur from extra weight, but from extra movement/friction and more importantly, the diet of the person. If a person eats a lot of raw salads, raw nuts/seeds, takes "bitter" foods (that tend to dry) like coffee, teas, stimulant drinks, alcohols, or even packaged foods that are dry like chips, protein bars- all these foods "dry" the body from inside. Vata energy person also likes to move a lot and they are likely to pickup that weighted vest and go jogging. That's a bad combination as they are the most prone to degeneration. These individuals must learn that they have to balance their exercise routine, with proper diet. For example, one oil i give to these individuals is Mahanaryana oil. I'm concerned about WHO is doing it, and whether the have adequate external & internal support. Amit Gupta, MD Physician, Ayurveda Practitioner, CureNatural
Having walked my own journey with autoimmune challenges, I'd approach weighted vests cautiously for psoriatic arthritis--while they can boost bone density, that extra load might aggravate inflamed joints during daily activities. Instead, start by incorporating gentle resistance through water bottles during short walks, monitoring how your joints respond before considering any added weight. What worked for me was focusing on consistency with low-impact movement first, like 10-minute strolls after meals, to build tolerance without triggering flare-ups.
