As a Dad, sometimes I wake up and can smell eggs cooking. It's an amazing experience, especially since I can sleep in, for me, and a hugely empowering experience for the kids. Both my kids love cooked eggs, they loved cracking eggs and cooking with us since they were 4 years old. I've found it easy to teach them to cook eggs as although it is somewhat difficult, there is a structured approach that makes it easy for the kids. Because it's a healthy breakfast they have opportunities to practice nearly everyday meaning they quickly mastered it. - A proud dad of one boy and one girl, and a lovely Staffador who's terrible at cooking.
At 7 years old, a child should be able to cook simple dishes that are safe and within their capabilities. An uncommon example of something they could make would be hummus. It's easy to make and requires few ingredients: chickpeas, tahini, lemon juice, garlic and salt. With the help of an adult, the child can drain and mash the chickpeas with a fork or potato masher before stirring in the other ingredients. Hummus is a versatile food that's healthy, nutritious and delicious - perfect for snacking!
Not exactly cooking, but my seven-year-old daughter and nine-year-old son love to make their own salads. They use knives to slice lettuce and tomatoes. They know how to peel cucumbers and carrots. My daughter uses the peeler to shave carrots for her salad. They add toppings like bacon bits and sunflower seeds, as well as an appropriate amount of dressing on top. This is a mostly safe activity since there's no heat involved, and the knives they use are fairly dull but just sharp enough to do the job. While we limit typical snacking between meals, we let our children eat raw vegetables and salads at any time without asking. This incentivizes them to choose these foods more often.
As a guy who used to work as a summer camp counselor, I can say with confidence that I do not want 7 year olds in the kitchen. Anything with heat and sharp objects mixed with children is a liability. While 7 year olds may not understand: a.) the milk to cereal ratio b.) that milk is poured AFTER cereal c.) how to not spill or make a mess, there is very little chance that cooking this meal will result in a hospital visit. #best
Kids love cheese. I believe that a grilled cheese sandwich is the perfect thing for a 7 year old to be able to cook on their own. Cooking is a great skill to know and can turn into a great hobby. A grilled cheese sandwich is something that your 7 year old can enjoy cooking as much as they love eating it. Teach them how to cook a grilled cheese sandwich.
Around when my daughter was 7 she learned how to help cook breakfast and would make the eggs. We taught her to safely cook a scrambled egg at first and then a fried egg later on. She was very good and really liked to cook. It was great to have a helper when making the weekend breakfast. At 7 we didn't let her use the stove by herself, but would always be very close when cooking. Eggs are a great option because if there is a mess up you only waste one egg and can make up another batch very quickly.
One food that is suitable for a seven year old to learn to cook would be scrambled eggs. This meal has an age appropriate learning curve without being too difficult. Another benefit is this teaches children the basics of stove top usage. Teaching children the safety needed when cooking on a stove is also great for building their confidence.

With ready-to-eat ingredients in the fridge, a 7-year-old can put together a salad with a pre-prepared protein in just a few minutes. For example, you can keep some washed lettuce, dressings, cherry tomatoes, cheese cubes, and a protein such as almonds or chicken on-hand to make the process easy. Plus, putting together a salad can be fun and creative.

If you want a 7-year-old child to already have some cooking skills, you should start small, with breakfasts. The best idea would be to see them learn how to make simple things such as scrambled eggs or grilled cheese sandwiches. These will do, as you don't want such a young child to use sharp knives or heavy utensils. There will be time for that in the coming years.
Age 7 is the perfect age to begin teaching children to cook. I like to start by teaching them to make a scrambled egg. This is a great nutritious item, high in protein and easy to master, which will serve to give them confidence in their own abilities. Beating the egg also takes some dexterity, so it helps them work on hand and eye coordination as well. The scrambled egg also requires lower heat and constant watching. This keeps the child focused on what they are doing. Finally, it’s quick to prepare and doesn’t create a lot of dishes or mess. Scrambled eggs are a perfect starter for a new cook.
Sandwich is definitely a great choice for you. This is an easy dish to make, but it's both delicious and eye-catching. Making sandwiches is also somewhat safer than other dishes that need cooking. If you train your child to cook a complicated dish that needs to be heated, the child might do it again without adult supervision and this is very dangerous.
