One of the things that always stuck with me was watching two guys moving apartments while having lunch one day - they were maneuvering a couch into a small two person boat and rowing it away because there are no cars anywhere in the city proper!

Bergamo is a small city in Lombardy that is simply breathtaking and exciting also due to the fact that it is usually not filled with tourists like Milan or Venice. The bonus this city also provides is a cheaper stay (perfect for one day) than neighboring counterparts. Bergamo comprises two parts: Città Alta (higher city), an older city, and Città Bassa (lower city), a newer one. You can get between the two easily with the funicular. Be prepared to see picturesque views. Piazza Vecchia, the old square, has a variety of pleasant little cafes like Caffè del Tasso 1476. The Venetian Walls are also a must. After all, they are a UNESCO World Heritage site. Bonus tip: everyone knows Lago di Como, but you should absolutely check out the underrated, equally beautiful, but hidden (to most tourists) gem - Lago di Garda.

Taormina is the best place I have ever been in Italy and it isn't talked about enough, even though it was recently featured in season 2 of the popular TV show The White Lotus. This historic community is everything you want to see in Italy and it is so beautiful. If you are in Italy, you HAVE to see it!
