Discourse with ethical dilemmas is an important component regarding any professional function. One such dilemma occurred in my practice when I identified a possible conflict of interest within the framework of one project. Rather than being submerged in doubt, I chose to be clear about it. I started an honest discussion with the concerned stakeholders on ethical considerations that could arise. We revised project parameters, installed safeguards and informed on the situation all parties. It was about putting integrity ahead of expediency and making sure that we chose our actions based on ethical considerations. It also emphasised the need for honest communication, active ethical assessment and a desire to live by principles even in hard-to evaluate dilemmas.
In my role as a CEO, I once faced an ethical dilemma regarding wage disparity in my team. Our top performers, naturally, were earning more. However, this was unintentionally causing a growing wage gap. The dilemma was to maintain a competitive talent space whilst ensuring fairness. I worked to equalize the wages, using a performance-indexed method. But, I also implemented incentives for exceptional achievements to keep our high performers motivated. This not only narrowed the wage gap but also reinforced a sense of fairness and motivation within our team.
I encountered a unique ethical dilemma when a competitor's confidential data unintentionally became accessible to us. Instead of exploiting it, I promptly reported the breach to our legal team and the competitor, maintaining transparency. We worked together to secure their data and prevent any misuse. This exclusive approach not only upheld our ethical standards but also led to a collaborative relationship with the competitor, focusing on healthy competition rather than unethical advantage. It's a testament to the importance of integrity and cooperation in navigating complex ethical dilemmas.
