I had a patient who was a Pilot who had Profound High Frequency Hearing loss. He purchased top of the line hearing aids to help with his problem. In most places the frequency lowering features were great and he heard his family a lot better, but his biggest struggle was with the background noise in the Cockpit of his plane. We had several visits trying to solve the issue. I had him take a professional portable recorder and record the noise in his cockpit. I used a frequency analyzer to determine where the noises were. I then programmed the hearing aid to adjust for these troubling frequencies. This greatly improved his ability to hear in the cock pit and I became great friends with him and his family. It was so rewarding to mix my love of sound, audiology, and personal care to help solve his hearing problem. I think thats what I love most about this industry, its a science and an art.
