Most people will tell you that the key to being a better, happier person is to exercise, eat healthy, and stay away from your phone. I'm definitely not disagreeing with these common tips but I will say that "happiness" is subjective. What makes me happy isn't necessarily what makes you happy and vice-versa. I truly believe the two most important things to do if you're trying to feel better about yourself is to spend time and energy trying to figure out what exactly that looks like for you. Does being a better person mean being kinder to others? Does it mean trying harder at work? Spending more time with your friends and family? Start by prioritizing these parts of your life—which one of these things will bring you more happiness? Give it and try and if that doesn't work, move on to the next idea on the list!
Give compliments to others. It's a nice gesture, and as a return, you may also get a compliment or feel better about the act of kindness you've just shown. Compliment someone on their eye makeup, or tell them that you like their shoes. A small gesture of gratitude is always appreciated, especially from a stranger.
It's essential to treat yourself with kindness. You can't always be so hard on yourself and push your body and mind to crazy limits. Be nice. Give yourself a compliment. Go on a self-date to your favorite restaurant. A little TLC can do wonders for your health and as a result, you'll be a happier, nicer person.

There are three primary skills when it comes to your relationship with yourself and others - knowing what you want, asking for it, and accepting if people say no. Self-awareness helps you understand your wants and emotional needs, gives you the confidence to ask for them in an assertive yet non-aggressive way and provides the insight to understand why someone else may say no, and how to accept this.
Think about it: The people you surround yourself with can either build you up or drag you down. So, let's focus on developing amazing relationships that will leave you feeling included and full of energy. First things first, take stock of your current relationships. Who are those in your life that make you feel on cloud nine? These are the people that you want to invest more time and energy into. Plan fun activities or even just give them a call. Now, make sure to increase the number of these relationships over time. Next, it's time to let go of the relationships that aren't serving you. This can be tough, but sometimes we need to say goodbye to those who make us feel bad about ourselves. It's absolutely okay to distance yourself from toxic relationships and prioritise your own wellbeing. Finally, work on yourself: What can you do to become someone else’s superstar relationship? Be open and honest with yourself. Remember that every relationship has its ups and downs. That’s normal.

I find that engaging in at least one "off the clock" activity for one hour each day allows me to recharge and feel refreshed. Personally, I choose to spend my free time playing pickleball or volleyball. Both sports allow me to unplug and exercise as well as socialize. As a working dad of a child with special needs, that time is important to me and helps me be more productive both at work and at home.
To become a better version of yourself, you must be willing to change. To become the better person you want to be, I think you must be open to the possibilities of change. Some people resist changing more than you think, making it more difficult for them to change. That is why they struggle to grow. You give yourself more power to grow and become the finest version of yourself when you are willing to keep an open mind regarding the change.

For example, if you see a person drop something, or if you are in a restaurant, and you see a person without silverware, rather than just walking by, offer to help. In addition to providing you with the encouragement you need to keep going, these milestones also supply you with regular doses of happiness.

As a psychologist, I emphasize the Stages of Change model with clients, friends, and family. This model emphasizes the steps toward becoming the best version of yourself, establishing concrete goals and experiencing positive emotions along the way. The six Stages of Change are precontemplation, contemplation, preparation, action, maintenance, and relapse (I call this reaffirmation). These stages progress from initial awareness of problems you face, preparing for change, taking action, holding onto new patterns of behavior, and then to reaffirming and sometimes reevaluating your commitment to change. More concretely, take moments out of your busy schedule and think about how you envision your ideal future, including how to better yourself and your relationship with others. Then write down specific goals that will help you achieve that vision, and follow the Stages of Change model to accomplish these goals and reach your own version of happiness.

When you take the time to appreciate the positive aspects of your life, it can shift your focus from the negative and improve your overall outlook on life. There are a lot of different ways that one can give back to their community, such as volunteering, giving money to charity, or just being kind and helpful to other people. Setting goals is nothing new to those in business or who are focused on a career, but to be a better and happier person it is important to set intrinsic ones. Business objectives are fine, but they do little to grow us as people, as the desired results are not meant to affect ourselves, but the bottom lines of our enterprise. Identifying goals that help us grow as people, like finding a hobby, developing spiritually, building a plan to bring perspective such as travel, or even creating opportunities to build a community or commonality with others, is important to centering yourself and focusing on the other important aspects of being a person. By focusing on the intrinsic goals and not just the ones focused on entrepreneurial benchmarks, you can become a happier and better person.
Giving back to others, in my opinion, may bring a feeling of purpose and fulfillment while also helping to better the lives of those around you. Volunteer for a local group, make a charitable donation, or simply offer a hand to a friend or neighbor in need. When it comes to giving back, it's critical to select a cause or group that shares your values and interests. Concentrate on making a significant difference and be willing to devote time and resources to the cause.
Implement a healthy lifestyle. Incorporate exercise, energy-inducing meals, and meditation into your daily routine. When you focus on your physical health, your mental health improves as well. It’s easier to be happy when you’re firing on all cylinders.
I believe that if you want to improve yourself and the world around you, you must be open to making adjustments. There is no other way to develop into the kind of person you want to be but to be open to new experiences and perspectives, which is why I think change is so important. As a result, many people are resistant to change, which might impede development. You can learn to improve yourself and develop into the kind of person you aspire to be if you keep an open mind and are prepared to make adjustments.
You may have noticed that the people who are driven by and occupied with things they’re passionate about are generally not too concerned with petty matters. Things like gossip don’t seem to bother them because they have their eyes on the sky. When you delve into your passions and stay engaged with things that matter to you, it’s likely that you’re more satisfied with life and have an infectious positive energy. This is why one of the best things you can do to be a happier and better person is to identify what you’re passionate about and focus your attention there.
