One of the best team building activities that I was dubious about for a while is axe throwing. These venues have been popping up all over the place and with good reason, it turns out. I now think of it as significantly more interesting darts. You can split up into teams and brainstorm your strategy to get the most points, blow off some steam by really chucking a tomahawk into the target and do some socializing as you watch your teammates and opponents take their turns. Text-based adventure games. For a long time we had Zork embedded on a Slack channel. Anyone could interact with it and get us all further along the text-based adventure game. Perhaps the team-building element was the mutual frustration as we kept dying or getting stuck or whathaveyou, but it was quite a joy to see people taking a minute or two out of the their days to 'Go North' or 'Kill Troll'. It spoke to my inner gamer geek (I formerly owned a game development company, Intelligent Games). Something worth trying in any case. I don't think we ever managed to win, but it brought a sense of adventure to the day-to-day.
