One way to help a loved one through a traumatic experience is to be there for them. This can mean a shoulder to cry on, or someone to talk to, or simply just just sitting next to them in their time of need. People experience trauma in different ways. By being present for them will give them comfort to ease stress without overwhelming them.
I have dry sense of humor and am unintentionally funny at times. Sometimes I can be goofy as well. When my partner was hospitalized from an allergic reaction, she was going through a tough time mentally. I remember saying something unintentionally funny that made her laugh, and the mood shifted. For a few moments, she was able to forget that something traumatic happened to her and I was able to bring joy back into her life. #best
