Small companies face the challenge of working with fewer departments and employees – resulting in less talent in more niche business areas such as data. Working within a budget to fill the most critical roles, small companies can fall short in understanding how to collect and leverage data efficiently due to a lack of educational resources on the subject. However, I recommend small business owners promote research and self-education across teams to continuously improve business processes.
The prime challenge that has delayed the maximization of business data for growth is the diversity of employees' skills against the evolving market needs. Leveraging data to fuel overall growth is an organization-wide effort. It calls for the continuous upskilling of the workforce and the perpetual reinforcement of business functions and operations so strategies could be modeled and implemented at the same rate that the market updates its demands. Not to mention, capitalizing on data provided by consumers to the business positions companies in legally dangerous circumstances. With the reinforced regulations on the use of consumer data, maximizing these assets to secure business success is as complicated as it is beneficial.
Easily sharing data between the different Saas applications we use. Like many other small businesses, we heavily rely on multiple platforms such as Shopify, Salesforce, Ripple, Slack, and Notion to name a few to run the day to day operations of our business. While some are more guilty than others, the more open an application's API is, the easier it is for us to integrate it within a larger framework of our organization. With these applications constantly being updated, there is always something new to learn or optimize and we hope that we will be able to dial in more fluid integrations and reduce this overall friction overtime.

Finding quality system integration tools that don’t cost an arm and a leg. While there are many great and affordable products out there, there are also some integration products that are expensive and don’t live up to their hype. Therefore, it can be risky when shopping for a good, seamless solution that is cost-effective while meeting all of your unique business needs. When systems are able to automatically share information with one other, data mining becomes much less time-intensive.
Market trends are constantly shifting and as a result, the datasets that we work with have become increasingly complex. When it comes to digital marketing, the landscape of social media platforms and consumer mindsets are constantly shifting. New data is always becoming available and our organization needs to leverage it in order to stay ahead. With the onset of the global COVID-19 pandemic, people's priorities have shifted. Even though life has mostly gone back to normal in many parts of the world, there's been a permanent shift in the way people live, work, and learn. Innovation plays a major part in what we do. If new data is becoming available faster than we can analyze it, new methods of data analysis will be necessary in order to keep up. Making sure that data is understood across the entire team, throughout different geographical regions, is a top priority. Keeping schedules consistent so that teams can communicate in real-time is necessary for navigating new developments.
The #1 challenge holding back businesses from leveraging data to fuel growth is a lack of understanding on how data can be used to drive decisions that positively impact the bottom line. Data can be overwhelming and difficult to interpret, which can lead to inaction, and data doesn't hold its value indefinitely. Stale data has less strategic value and less predictive power, so businesses really have to prioritize speed in their data approach. That means having the proper tools for the data you collect and the skill to use them, so that your company wastes as little time as possible when drawing out actionable insights.
Companies that have never collected and measured data on their operations before but eventually decide to do so may find it challenging to analyze and use the information collected effectively. It is the #1 challenge holding the organization back from leveraging data to fuel growth. Their inexperience means they don't have proven procedures, don't know what data might be necessary, and cannot centralize and effectively use it. After all, what's the point in collecting data if its usage will be impossible/ineffective? The way out is to prepare appropriately for the whole process. Familiarize yourself with case studies, attend training courses on data analysis, and learn what data is essential and how it can be used in business decisions. Then plan the strategies and goals you want to achieve using the data. Help yourself by using professional tools to collect and analyze data. Soon, you will learn how to use data to help your business.
The one challenge I face when leveraging data to fuel growth for the organization is working with different stakeholders and communicating effectively. Since I work in a data-driven company, there are various departments within the company that may have different ways of interpreting data. It is important to collaborate with these departments and have a mutual understanding of the data in order to make informed business decisions. Additionally, I also need to ensure that the information I share is accurate and easy to understand.
There are literally hundreds of data analytics tools on the market today. Thoughtspot, Microsoft Power BI, Sisense, Qlik. The list goes on and on. Not to mention, it seems like every other new SaaS company that pops up touches on data analytics or management in some way. The problem is - I don’t know where to start. Every tool or software package I come across claims to be the best, but they all have different strengths and competencies. Is there a tool that does everything? Or do I need more than one tool? I suppose that’s my biggest obstacle. I simply feel overwhelmed by the research process in trying to decide on a data software tool that best fits our needs and can take advantage of the massive amounts of data we have access to. If someone could create a data analytics tool quiz to match you up with the right package, that would be awesome.
I am sure If the majority of your employees is not familiar working with data, you will only see it used infrequently at most. According to a Qlik/Accenture poll, only 21% of workers were absolutely convinced in their data literacy skills, which are defined as the capacity to read, comprehend, question, and operate with data. Despite having more data at their disposal, 74% of workers reported getting overwhelmed or unpleasant when dealing with data. People will fail to accept something they don't understand and find daunting unless they receive enough training and assistance.
While the use of big data platforms helps to solve the problem of collecting and storing huge amounts of data, as well as facilitating quick data retrieval, the problem is that generating actionable business insights from that data often requires being able to create KPI-based reports, identify useful predictions, and even make detailed recommendations. And the problem that lies in that comes down to the fact that such efforts typically demand input from a combination of statisticians, business analytics professionals, as well as data scientists who have machine learning expertise. However, being able to find such skilled talent is becoming extremely challenging with cloud architects and data scientists now becoming some of the most in-demand positions in the current job market. And it is this high level of scarcity and increased competition that has also led to extremely high salary caps that are proving to be difficult to afford from a business standpoint.
Data-driven firms require the support of the C-suite, but top-down directives alone don’t make analytics a standard tool for decision-making. Bottom-up, grassroots initiatives created to integrate traditional and advanced analytics into the functioning of businesses must be linked with senior-level imperatives. The analytic expertise of the available staff is often ignored, and spotting analytic-savvy staff who are not C-suite within the organization is difficult. There's a lack of new ideas and methods of working. Both expertise and interpersonal relationships have to work cooperatively to access the analytic savvy staff available. A skill gap analysis conducted internally will reveal areas that slack and require to be addressed, attention is drawn to these areas after thorough self-evaluation by the organization. Then, choosing new staff or external partners with a track record of wise data use will be applied.
Data security compliance is a major issue for many businesses. Data management is very vital since numerous private information about customers is held and stored by the organization, which can prove to be a very big mountain to climb if that data is either lost or lands in the wrong hands. Although data plays a big role in critical decision-making, the mitigation measures and precautions that need to be laid down by my organization to protect this data greatly hinder me to leverage it to foster growth.
In the Age of Information, data reigns supreme. The influx of data-driven careers has exploded seemingly overnight. Despite that boom, it is still difficult to find talented data analysts. Either they are already scooped up into premier positions, or they are freelancing and have packed plates. As a start-up it can be difficult competing for the top talent. What a start-up offers in flexibility and autonomy and creative license, it can't offer in stability and security and top-end pay. Having talented data analysts is paramount to being able to fully leverage your company's data to fuel growth. But it is a competitive marketplace out there and you have to be savvy. We've been fortunate and quite lucky in being able to develop talent in-house. But that has it's limitations too. Until we hit that next stage of growth we'll be dependent on being resourceful. Please let me know if you have any questions!
There are many challenges in leveraging data to fuel growth in our company that is CocoLoan. The main challenge that is blocking our way to leveraging data is to do presentation, analysis, and interpretation of the data gathered with a low amount of staff. The benefits of leveraging data are undoubtedly huge, however, hiring too many people to do this will defeat its purpose and would even hurt the income. Although the many challenges in leveraging data are existing in every industry and every sector, it's particularly tricky in the finance industry. Usually, we need to manage data in disparate systems since it can come from different states and different countries around the globe. Considering the different tax regulations that are legislated in each area, the analysis and interpretation of data are relatively difficult and require more work. The consolidation of raw data is just the first step in this long process since the data must be filtered and redistributed in various formats.
Organizations need data to solve business problems. They can extract details from existing data to improve service efficiency. But it comes with various challenges, but the most common challenge that holds a company back from leveraging data is the lack of talented professionals. Leveraging data includes analyzing and storing data in different data stores. It is crucial to have skilled data professionals run these data tools. A competent employee can work with modern technologies and fill this gap. The organization must hire knowledgeable professionals who can work with modern analytical solutions. They must perform proper training in data technology to reskill them. Poor data practices may lead to business loss, but making these changes will save an organization time and money.
We have access to all of the required information, but it is distributed across multiple places, leaving us unsure of where to begin or how to make sense of it. The difficulty is locating relevant data to fuel growth. We have a substantial amount of data, but the discrepancy between what we need and what we actually have makes it challenging to utilize the data.
In most cases, proving the value or truth of data acquired is arduous. This is because you can never tell the source's true intentions. Such information is usually from competitors, clients and sometimes people who haven’t even been well informed of the product or service but rather, people who got the Intel from Grapevine. The process of proving the value of information that can be used to fuel organisational growth is quite expensive as you have to hire data analysts to analyse the data and maybe even send out a team to the field to do research on the ground. This makes it difficult as the financial resources are scarce, and I cannot afford to divert funds to that line of action. I find it quite hard to prove the truth in most data acquired through the reviews because I often find some obvious unrealities and truths about it just from reading it hence making it unusable.
In addition to acquiring more data, businesses can profit from extracting more insights, signals, and features from their current data, creating the context for generating further data. There is a significant obstacle preventing businesses from consuming and using more data. Interorganizational Conflict A business could be prevented from adding a data stream for various reasons. For instance, the legal department might claim that the company cannot add a particular sort of information because the end-user agreement does not specify it, or the political costs of various departments extending outside of their silos might be too high. These obstacles cost time and money to overcome, just like integration, a lack of domain expertise, inadequate training, and a lack of data linkages do.
The number one challenge I'm facing is not having access to the analytics data that my company needs. We can't generate the reports and insights we need without the analytics data. We get the data we need from the company, but there are too many delays in the system and I'm trying to figure out a way to help my staff get the data they need more quickly. If we can get the right people in place, I think we can get this resolved once and for all and start growing the company faster.
