I attended Ultra Music Festival in Miami in 2017, and it was an amazing experience! The lineup was full of amazing artists, from EDM headliners like Kygo and Zedd to rap artists like Future and A$AP Rocky. The energy of the crowd was absolutely electric, and there was a great vibe from both the performers and the audience. The venue was absolutely stunning, with its giant LED screens, larger-than-life stage setups, and pyrotechnics. On top of the music and atmosphere, there were also a ton of interactive activities, like free yoga classes and art installations. Even when the festival was over, the after parties kept the party going. All in all, it was an incredibly fun experience, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to get the full festival experience.
The two festivals that come to mind are the Altamont Speedway event in 1969, which featured the Rolling Stones, Jefferson Airplane, Grateful Dead, and others. The Stones engaged the Hell's Angels motorcycle group to provide protection. That was a huge oversight. People were beaten by the Angels (including Marty Balin of the Jefferson Airplane, who they knocked out cold on stage). He eventually stabbed an 18-year-old to death (he did pull out a pistol, so it's difficult to determine who was at fault). Regardless, it left a long shadow over festivals and signaled the end of the peace and love attitude of the time. 99. Woodstock. A collection of thug nu-metal bands, rappers, and third-generation punk bands. An unruly audience and the first three do not mix well. Several reports of beatings, rapes, arson, and overall mayhem. This festival attempted (for the third time) to replicate the 1969 peace and love mood. It was ineffective.
