Albert Einstein said, “Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving.” He makes a good point – Sometimes, you have to go for things in life simply to maintain a healthy sense of momentum. The less you do, the harder it is to start new things.
John Burroughs' famous quote, "Leap, and the net will appear," inspires us to pursue our dreams and take risks. It emphasizes the importance of having faith in oneself and the courage to move forward. Though taking risks can be daunting, it often leads to amazing opportunities that wouldn't have been possible otherwise. Although taking risks can be scary, the prospect of the net appearing can give us the confidence to go for it. By believing in ourselves and taking that leap of faith, we can achieve our goals and ultimately find success.
I've always found this to be a profound statement from Desmond Tutu, because it really highlights the important of dreaming and visualization before taking action. I think that a great number of people in the world work hard, extremely so, but often do not have a clear picture of what it is they are working so hard for. Sure, they might have some vague ideas or images floating around in their mind but I think it is very important to actively dream and picture where you want to end up. It makes putting in all that effort much more manageable.
The author, Wayne Dyer, once said “Go for it now. The future is promised to no one.” This quote resonates because it’s true. No one knows how much time they have. There’s no sense in waiting to start a business, buy a house, travel, etc. because we may miss our chance. It’s best to just work up the courage and follow your dreams instead of possibly losing the opportunity to.
“Fear isn’t only a guide to keep us safe; it’s also a manipulative emotion that can trick us into living a boring life … the great stories go to those who don’t give in to fear.” - Donald Miller When I'm too terrified to go for it, this quote by Donald Miller reminds me that fear can be limiting and prevent us from pursuing experiences and opportunities that could lead to interesting and meaningful lives.
Charlie Martin has the mission is to make LGBTQ+ history as the first transgender driver to compete at the oldest and greatest endurance motorsport race the World, the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Every day she is closer to making this dream a very real reality and it will be a watershed moment in giving trans women everywhere positive visibility.
"A ship in harbor is safe, but that is not what ships are built for." - John A. Shedd Human beings have a psychological comfort zone for a reason, but not the reason you may think. It isn’t supposed to be one’s permanent residence but instead, somewhere to rest and recuperate briefly. Life’s most exciting, formative, and rewarding experiences occur outside one’s comfort zone, and that is where you should explore. Staying forever in one’s comfort zone may feel safe, but only in the short term. Real safety, security, and resilience are developed through effort and achievement, not by shying away from challenges. Low-reward, low-risk options almost always yield worse results over the long term while also limiting personal growth in the process. Instead, venture outside your comfort zone and achieve things you didn’t think were possible. You owe it to yourself.
"Better pass boldly into that other world, in the full glory of some passion, than fade and wither dismally with age." James Joyce, Dubliners. It reminds me of the research Daniel Pink is doing on regret and he found that the regret of not being bold enough was one of the four top common regrets among the thousands of responses he had collected on people's biggest regret at the end of life.
"If you're going through hell, keep going." by Winston Churchill is my personal favorite quote as it encourages us to keep pushing forward even in the face of adversity. It conveys the message that difficult times will pass and that success can be achieved if we continue to move forward and never gives up. By doing so, we can overcome challenges and achieve our goals. The quote also highlights the importance of persistence and resilience in the face of obstacles, which are key qualities for anyone looking to achieve success.
No phrase has influenced me the way Nike’s “Just do it” did. When I was a beginner, doubting how and when to start my business, this phrase gave me all the strength and push I needed. Business is a volatile industry and if you don’t do it, someone else will. So, as entrepreneurs, if you have an idea, go and pursue it. It is not as easy as it sounds, but sometimes not taking a risk will be a bigger risk.
One of my favorite quotes about going for it has been credited to Mahatma Gandhi: “Strength does not come from physical capacity. It comes from an indomitable will.” This simple yet powerful quote always encourages me to pursue my goals and dreams enthusiastically, no matter what the odds might be against me. When I know I have the courage and determination to keep going, even if something seems too difficult or overwhelming, that sense of strength gives me the drive to push harder and do whatever needs to be done. After all, if you never try anything unfamiliar or reach for more, you will never succeed in achieving your biggest ambitions.
One of my favorite quotes about embracing life and going for it is one by Theodore Roosevelt: "Believe you can, and you're halfway there." This quote motivates me to be brave, take risks, and try new things. It reminds me that even though there won't always be a guaranteed reward or outcome, just believing in my capabilities is the first step I need to take to make something happen. It also encourages me not to be afraid of failure because I give myself permission to take risks and appreciate the journey along the way. Whenever I feel scared or anxious about trying something challenging, I remember this quote as a reminder to believe in myself and never stop striving for what I want.
One of my favorite quotes about taking risks and going for it is by the American author and motivational speaker, Earl Nightingale. He famously said, "We become what we think about." This quote speaks to the idea that our thoughts shape our reality and that the beliefs we hold about ourselves and our capabilities can greatly impact the outcomes we achieve in life. If we focus our thoughts on the things we're afraid of or the reasons why we can't succeed, we limit our potential and hold ourselves back from reaching our goals. However, if we concentrate on the opportunities that lie ahead and the things we're capable of achieving, we create a positive and empowering mindset that drives us forward.
Amelia Earhart said, “The most effective way to do it, is to do it.” Taking action and facing our fears head-on allows us to achieve greater things than we ever could have imagined. Going for it can open doors that we never knew existed and bring us incredible rewards in life – all we have to do is take the first step. Once you decide to "just go for it," you never know where the journey might lead you!

Stan Lee's "If you've got an idea that you genuinely think is good, don't let some idiot talk you out of it" quote will probably stay with me forever. It's not exactly rocket science, but there is undeniable wisdom in these words. After all, every time you come up with something new and exciting, there will always be people who will want to temper that enthusiasm of yours. It's in your best interest not to let them succeed.
“If somebody offers you an amazing opportunity, but you are not sure you can do it, say yes – then learn how to do it later.” Richard Branson's quote is a reminder that success often requires taking risks and seizing opportunities, even if you feel unsure or unprepared. Either way, you might not discover new talents, achieve great things, and create a fulfilling and meaningful life. This message directs you to the learning and growth path and encourages you to step out of your comfort zones to reach your full potential. It encourages one to embrace the unknown and believe in an individual's ability to learn and adapt. Saying "yes" to an opportunity is a powerful way to challenge yourself personally and professionally. It can open up new doors, extend your skill set, and build the self-assurance and resiliency you need to succeed.
"Don't sit down and wait for opportunities to come. Get up and make them" by Madame C.J. Walker, who was also an inspiring BIPOC woman. She's one of the first women to be a self-made millionaire in the US and has made a big impact in times when it was almost impossible for a black woman to make an impact.
