Why are you passionate about serving the poor?

As a National Merit Scholar, I'm not only immersed in the realm of knowledge but also actively participate in numerous charitable efforts. My conviction lies in assisting others, particularly the less privileged, to contribute positively to society. The sentiment that education is a universal leveler, shared by my mother, has deeply influenced my commitment to aiding the impoverished. This belief posits that quality education can empower individuals from all backgrounds to pursue their ambitions and overcome the limitations set by poverty. Privileged with an enriching education, I must employ my capabilities, learning, and resources to ensure others access the same opportunities. The profound satisfaction derived from positively impacting another's life is incomparable. I've committed myself to assisting students from disadvantaged backgrounds by offering free college counseling and scholarships for SAT/ACT exams or college application fees. These students' success and life improvement through education are a source of immense happiness.

I believe 'giving brings more happiness than receiving.' In today's time, the one who has everything, everybody cares for them, but the one who has nothing, nobody cares about them. Maybe this is my motivation: to support someone for whom there is no one. The smile I see on their faces after helping them gives me immense satisfaction and a sense of purpose to keep going and stand by them.

Helping the poor, especially in my community is a continual daily passion of mine. I work as a Community Outreach Coordinator for an organization (AmSkills) that trains people in skills to work in the manufacturing career field. I grew up and live in Pasco County, Fl and when I meet a homeless person on the streets or in line at a local food pantry, I share this great opportunity to change their lives and step into a lifelong lasting career. This two-week class is only $25 and on graduation day, we bring in local hiring manufacturing employers into our class to interview all of our students. The students work on several hands-on projects, learn print reading, shop math, safety, soldering, electrical, robotics, resume writing, and interview coaching. During the two-week class, we also do a tour of a local manufacturing plant. I like to help people better themselves and step into a successful career. We help the poor, and people who need a second chance in life, and I love what I do for my community. I'm passionate about serving the underprivileged mainly due to my personal experiences and career trajectory. As a former prosecutor for the largest DA’s Office in Colorado, I've seen firsthand how poverty and homelessness can escalate into crime and despair. My connection to the community I serve makes me aware of the importance of empathy and understanding in our legal system. One of the organizations I work with, Homeward Alliance, tackles homelessness via various programs and initiatives. We focus on providing personalized legal help and counseling to reintegrate homeless individuals back into society without falling back into criminal behavior. The process is challenging and gratifying at the same time, often shedding light on the intersection of mental health, drug addiction, and homelessness. Another key way I help is by making my legal services affordable and flexible. I'm aware that many small legal issues can escalate if individuals don't have the financial capacity to handle them. Consequently, by providing various fee structures, discounts, and payment plans, I'm able to reach out to those who might feel that legal help is beyond their reach. Lastly, my pro bono work dealing with animal abuse and domestic violence has shown me how the most vulnerable members of society (be it humans or animals) often bear the brunt of neglect and violence. Fighting against such injustices fuels my passion to serve those in most need of legal help.

Coming from a formerly communist country I think that taking care of the poor is incredibly deeply ingrained in the cultural identity. It seems odd to me to even consider not doing so, and I know that this is a common attitude here in Poland. Having a robust social safety net makes me glad to pay my taxes as I know that a large part of the needs of the poor are covered, even if I still think they could do a better job and reduce the gap between the haves and the have nots.

I grew up in poor dirt and one thing that I experienced as a kid I will never wish for someone is to suffer from hunger. I find it downright criminal how millions of people suffer from hunger worldwide, and tens of thousands die per day from it, even with more food production than in the past. Climate, agriculture problems, food distribution problems, and corruption are all among the issues that perpetuate this problem. I make it a point to donate to food banks every holiday season and whenever else I can, and make sure not to waste food. We have hungry people everywhere in this world and they need help. My experience growing up gave rise to my passion for serving the poor because I know what it feels like to sleep at night while starving to death.

Coming from Romania, we've had our share of troubles with the economy and even though now we're developing quite well we are still aware of what it is like to be in a poor financial situation. It really helps me keep things in perspective when looking about serving the poor in other countries and in other circumstances, having grown up with a lot of poverty around me.

By engaging in this work, I can promote a more accurate understanding of the complex factors that contribute to poverty. For example, many people may assume that individuals living in poverty are lazy or unmotivated, but through firsthand experience, I have witnessed the resilience, determination, and resourcefulness of individuals facing poverty. By sharing these stories and providing accurate information, I aim to challenge stereotypes and foster empathy and compassion towards those in need.

Empowerment Through Education: Education serves as a strong catalyst for change. I am passionate about offering opportunities in education to people who are less fortunate, giving them knowledge and skills that can help overcome the poverty cycle. Education creates opportunities for economic stability but also builds the foundation of critical thinking and self-empowerment. In closing, my desire to help the poor is a mission of helping make it an equal world where pity beatsbias. It is a commitment to bridge building, tearing down systemic barriers and creating an inclusive society in which every individual no matter what their economic status can flourish into that for which he or she was divinely created.
