This will be the third year that I reframe my New Year's resolutions into a way that allows me to feel successful and accomplished. Instead of setting a SMART goal which can often be overly ambitious, time consuming or easy to get discouraged by- instead I choose a word. One word to act as my north star- a theme to guide me through the year. The magic of this approach is that it is easier to stay on theme than it is to meet wild expectations when life inevitably gets in the way. It also allows me the freedom to say yes to unexpected opportunities that I might have otherwise missed if I were to stay rigidly tied to specific outcomes. In 2023 my word was Growth as I focused on stepping fully into entrepreneurship. In 2024 my word was Intention as I became more selective about what I put my energy into and for 2025 my word will be Voice as I focus on strengthening my authority and finding ways to share my insights. Picking a theme word permits you to adapt and change your goals so you can reinterpret them as your year goes on- allowing you to feel successful which is a great way to bring in happiness and well-being for the year.
This coming year, I am focusing on rituals. That is, not just what I am doing (new habits, goals), but HOW am I doing them. The goal is to add more intentionality and mindfulness into my life and to incorporate more meaning in my daily tasks.
