A human resources professional should be able to get acquainted with a candidate and find out their background and know enough about that person to match them with the right job in the organization. You should also be able to discern whether the candidate would even be a good fit for the organization. You should know what makes a great salesperson versus a marketing professional. You should know who would be better suited as a top manager versus someone who would serve best in a first-mate-type of role. A good HR representative should be able to match the right role for the right employee.

They must be able to hear what an employee is saying, even if that employee is not communicating in the most articulate or clear way. The ability to listen effectively is crucial because it allows HR professionals to get a sense of what their employees need from them. For example, if an employee comes into your office and tells you that they're unhappy at work, you need to be able to listen and identify what's wrong so that you can help them find a solution together. That solution might involve changing jobs or departments within the company, offering more training opportunities for the employee's existing role, or even giving them some time off so they can be refreshed when they come back!

Primarily, you have to be good with people if you want to work in human resources. This entails having the ability to communicate with almost anyone, listen, and resolve any issues.
