Laurie J. Carr is a seasoned education and leadership strategist with more than 20 years of experience spanning K–12 education, national nonprofits, and leadership development. A former teacher, principal, and district leader, she brings deep operational understanding of schools alongside executive expertise in talent development, partnership strategy, and organizational growth. Most recently, Laurie served in a national nonprofit executive role leading large-scale partnerships, advising senior leaders, and building systems that develop people, strengthen culture, and drive impact. Her work sits at the intersection of education, human capital, and leadership—focused on connecting talent to opportunity, aligning strategy with values, and helping organizations and leaders grow with clarity, integrity, and purpose. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Licensed Professional Counselor specializing in evidence-based therapy for children, adults, and families, providing care through an award-winning counseling and neurofeedback practice serving Harrisburg since 2014. I hold advanced training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, am EMDR certified, and also use neurofeedback as part of a comprehensive, brain-based approach to mental health treatment. I work as an independent counselor, specializing in AP course selection and college planning. My goal is to streamline the process students take when mapping out their classes making sure that my strategies make sense for their future ambitions. I am the founder and director of Grief Recovery Center, a Trusted Houston mental health practice since 2015, offering inclusive care in-person, online, and in Spanish. I focus on helping people work through grief and life transitions in a safe, compassionate environment. I started the practice in 2015 as a small solo practice while still working full-time at a psychiatric hospital, and over time it has grown into a group practice with a full administrative team and more than 20 therapists, all committed to providing quality care. My commitment to this work is deeply personal. After experiencing a painful, life-altering loss, I went through The Grief Recovery Institute®’s Grief Recovery Program® myself. That experience helped me heal and led me to specialize in grief recovery so I could support others who feel overwhelmed, stuck, or alone in their grief. At Grief Recovery Center, I am dedicated to creating a space where people can show up exactly as they are, without judgment, no matter the type of loss they are facing. This includes losses such as the death of a loved one, relationship or friendship changes, pet loss, pregnancy-related loss, loss of trust or faith, and many other forms of grief. Dr. James Lyons, M.D., is an internationally trained physician that was born in Germany. He is the son of a teacher and army veteran and was raised in Texas, but traveled extensively during his medical training. From medical rotations in French Hospital Systems, to his training in Miami at Ryder Trauma medical center and psychiatric training at TGK Prison, his depth of knowledge for those in acute crises is vast. In addition to his doctorate in medicine, Dr. Lyons also holds a Masters of Medical Sciences and coordinated research trials for schizophrenia pharmaceutical treatments in Dallas, TX. He completed his residency in Rural Michigan as a Family Medicine Physician, where he made home visits, and was rigorously trained in all aspects of medical care from delivering and caring for newborns, to end of life care. In his final year of training, he was named chief resident of this program. After 3 additional years practicing in rural east texas as a hospitalist in the acute setting, he, his wife, and their 4 children now reside back in Texas where he was raised, where his parents are retired, and where his sister works as a registered nurse in hospital leadership. Dr. Lyons continues to practice medicine in the acute setting as a hospitalist and emergency room physician in the greater Austin area. Aside from direct patient care, Dr. Lyons provides medical expertise and consulting while also being actively involved in performance improvement, infection control, and medical executive committees in the hospitals where he practices.
