I founded Affiliate Window (now Awin.com) in 2000 with the goal of building a tracking infrastructure that could attribute every online sale to the publisher who caused it. I wrote the tracking software myself. Over the next eleven years as CEO, we grew the company to over £110 million in annual revenue, 850 advertisers, 80,000 publishers, and offices in London and Baltimore. Major clients included Nike, Vodafone, and Dixons Store Group. We acquired Buy.At from AOL and sold a majority stake to Axel Springer in 2009. The company merged with Zanox and rebranded as Awin, which is now one of the largest affiliate networks in the world. The entire business was built on one principle: cost-per-action attribution. The advertiser only pays when a sale happens, and every sale must be attributed to the publisher who caused it. That forced a level of reporting rigour that most marketing channels have never had to meet. I spent a decade in rooms with finance teams from some of the largest brands in the UK, defending the spend with deterministic data. After Affiliate Window, I founded Zoo Management, working in artist management across the music and entertainment industry. That experience led directly to FanCircles, which I founded to solve the problem of how creators and brands build direct audience relationships without depending on platform algorithms . FanCircles builds PushPass, a wallet pass platform that allows brands and creators to reach their audience through push notifications delivered directly to Apple and Google Wallet. A viewer adds a branded pass in one tap from a link or QR code, and the brand gains a direct push notification channel to that person's lock screen. No app required. Every notification is tracked from delivery through to sale. The technology solves two problems I have spent my career working on: how to attribute marketing spend to revenue with certainty, and how to give brands a direct connection to their audience that no platform can take away. I write and speak about performance marketing, influencer marketing, direct-to-consumer audience infrastructure, the impact of TV viewing on digital marketing, and the shift from rented reach to owned audiences. My perspective comes from building the tracking infrastructure for one of the world's largest affiliate networks and now applying the same to influencer marketing and push notification marketing.
